Kindergartners loved playing in the snow today!
No School Today - Tuesday, January 9, 2024
Sioux Falls Public Schools are closed Monday, January 8, 2024 due to weather.
Is it magic? No, it's science! Yesterday, students experienced wonder and joy as several SDSU professors performed an array of experiments. We're grateful to the presenters for this wonderful learning opportunity!
We were honored to host a string quartet from the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra today. Third and Fourth grade students were treated to beautiful music while learning about musical elements and features of stringed instruments.
Science Fair!
Friday, March 22, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Happy New Year! With the new year, we are trying a few new things with our annual science fair. First, we are adjusting dates, and our high school friends will join us during the school day on Friday, January 19, for our kickoff! Each student will leave the kickoff with an informational handout. Please check your student’s backpack when they come home on January 19th.
Second, we recognize families are busy, so we’ve added a little more time between the kickoff and the fair. Our evening Science Fair will take place Friday, March 22. Projects need to be completed prior to the fair and brought to school to display that evening. Please mark your calendar to attend the science fair to see all the hard work completed by our John Harris Scientists!
Registrations are due Friday, March 1. Registration forms are digital and are located on the John Harris Science Fair website @www.sites.google.com/view/jhesciencefair
If you have any questions about the event, please email Margaret Dalton at JHEsciencefair@gmail.com . Thanks!
It was a busy and fun conclusion to the week! Dr. Stavem spoke at the HERO breakfast, we had our first all school sing along, winter parties were entertaining and so much more!
We hope that everyone gets some well deserved rest and time with family over break!
If your children have lost anything, come check out the lost and found! They will be donated after today! Thanks!
Students and staff are happy to have Buddy the Elf back visiting the library. Last Friday, he visited K01 for the day!
Wednesday was Pajama Day! Mrs. Dobberpuhl, Mr. Conner, and retired former JHE teachers Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Schumacher, covered rooms for short periods of time so that staff could grab a treat in the teacher's lounge. They read books and led kids through a winter activity. Pictured are students designing a sleigh with Lego bricks and students drawing a snow globe.
Today is a beautiful December day, but we know it can't last forever in South Dakota! Make sure you and your student(s) know how to access Canvas for remote learning when weather that keeps kids home can be predicted in advance.
For nearly a month, John Harris staff have been working in "gift giving teams" to collect items to donate. To conclude this process, yesterday, teams dressed up as "classic games." Students will vote next week to determine a winner!
Join us for All Pro Dad tomorrow, Friday Dec. 8th, at 7:15 a.m.!
Check out the two weeks of dress up days leading up to winter break!
We are so proud of how the JH band & orchestra students performed at their first concert of the year! We wrapped up the night with cookies and a photo booth! Thank you to JH staff, families & students for making this night a smashing success! 🎶🎻🎺
The JHE band & orchestra are excited to share all that they’ve learned in their concert on Monday, Dec. 4 at 6:30pm! Please join us after the concert for cookies and a photo booth! Free will donations to support the band & orchestra program are welcome. We hope to see you all there! 😊🎶🎺🎻
Buddy the Elf is missing from the JHE library! Don't let the faint smile from Mrs. Hage fool you. She is heartbroken. JHE students are on the case! Students are using sticky notes to make accusations, offer suggestions, identify possible locations to search, etc. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds!
JHE kindergartners had their Fall Feast on Monday! They had a great time! Thanks to the many parent volunteers who could support this fun activity!
A portion of the funds raised leading up to the JHE Fun Run went to purchasing new tables and stools in Ms. Levisay's art room. The kids love the new furniture! The previous tables were bulky and made it hard for students to work collaboratively. We are grateful to the JHE PTO for helping improve this workspace!
Reminder that there is NO SCHOOL, Wednesday, November 22nd through Friday, November 24th. Classes will resume on Monday, November 27th!
