The first two days at JHE were a blast!

The SFSD Leadership Team is just as happy today as they were as Kindergarten students! Together, they've been in school a total of 150 years! Show us your "First Day" photos with #SFSDFirstDay. Have a GREAT year!

Thank you to our community partners, Southern Hills Church, for providing meals at the JHE open house tonight! Thanks to all the volunteers for taking time to support our school community!

The Boohoo/Yahoo Breakfast will take place on August 24th (the first day of school) from 8:15-9:15 AM located at the Laurel Oak Picnic Shelter.
This is a great opportunity for all families to connect and especially for kindergarten and new families to John Harris! All our welcome!
See the attached image for more information!

Hot Dog Dinner at JHE Open House tomorrow: August 22nd - 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This meal is provided by Southern Hills Church. We are fortunate to have them as community partners! We will have tables set up in the gym. Stop down before/after visiting classrooms.
We look forward to seeing families tomorrow!

JHE staff adventure: Yesterday was the first day for all staff to be in the building after summer break. Staff boarded a school bus unsure of where we were going. Skate City was our destination. We connected through fun activities and great conversation! We are energized and ready to see students and families in our building next week!

SFSD congratulates its valued partner Steve Hildebrand of Promising Futures! Steve recently received the Community Service Award from the Associated School Boards of SD for his work to remove economic barriers so all students can see their bright futures ahead. Thank you, Steve!

Freedom Reigns! Happy Independence Day!

The Power of Partnership is highlighted, once again, to help SFSD families get connected to affordable internet. The SF Area Community Foundation is investing $50,000 to enroll households in the Affordable Connectivity Program (AFP). SD Voices for Peace leads the effort.
Voices for Peace is working with SFSD schools to inform families of this program. An enrollment specialist will continue to meet families during school events like parent-teacher conferences, success nights, etc. Eligible families should enroll today! GetInternet.gov

Mrs Effling got a PTO grant for the George McGovern books written by a former JHE 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Sarah Herbert. They made a comic strip of his life!
4th grade used PTO funds to purchase Book Club books!

Today was the first 5th graders vs. staff basketball game. 5th grade players were selected by lottery system after indicating their interest in playing. It was a close game, but the staff team came out on top! It was so much fun! 4th and 5th graders were excellent spectators. Thanks to all the students and staff that played, supported teams, and helped make it a great event!

Thank you Nan and Emily Baker! These two created a coffee bar experience that was just what our staff needed to start the day!
