Check out the two weeks of dress up days leading up to winter break!

We are so proud of how the JH band & orchestra students performed at their first concert of the year! We wrapped up the night with cookies and a photo booth! Thank you to JH staff, families & students for making this night a smashing success! 🎶🎻🎺

The JHE band & orchestra are excited to share all that they’ve learned in their concert on Monday, Dec. 4 at 6:30pm! Please join us after the concert for cookies and a photo booth! Free will donations to support the band & orchestra program are welcome. We hope to see you all there! 😊🎶🎺🎻

Buddy the Elf is missing from the JHE library! Don't let the faint smile from Mrs. Hage fool you. She is heartbroken. JHE students are on the case! Students are using sticky notes to make accusations, offer suggestions, identify possible locations to search, etc. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds!

JHE kindergartners had their Fall Feast on Monday! They had a great time! Thanks to the many parent volunteers who could support this fun activity!

A portion of the funds raised leading up to the JHE Fun Run went to purchasing new tables and stools in Ms. Levisay's art room. The kids love the new furniture! The previous tables were bulky and made it hard for students to work collaboratively. We are grateful to the JHE PTO for helping improve this workspace!

Reminder that there is NO SCHOOL, Wednesday, November 22nd through Friday, November 24th. Classes will resume on Monday, November 27th!

Planning Ahead! If your current 5th grader is involved in Gifted Education at their SFSD Elementary, join us tonight from 6-7pm at Patrick Henry Middle School to learn more about the Middle School Honors Program!

K03 students are mastering their sight words!

It's School Psychologist Week! We appreciate Mrs. Keckler's presence in the building! She builds strong relationships with students and staff. She is an irreplaceable source of knowledge!

SFSD's new Canvas platform allows students and families to access school assignments and homework anytime, anywhere. When winter weather can be predicted, students and staff will take devices home to continue their learning. Are you prepared? Check out the guidance BEFORE you need it!

Congratulations to this week's 💫🌟 🤩 SFSD All Star💫🌟🤩 Valerie Anderson at John Harris Elementary! Valerie was nominated by Kersten Dobberpuhl, and she had this to say, "Val is an incredible team member. She handles all the nurse calls and visits. She balances student needs/documentation/teacher needs. You will often find Val running the building as she goes room to room to assist students." Thank you, Val, for making John Harris and SFSD a wonderful place to be!

Be prepared for school delays or cancellations caused by winter weather! This chart is an example of how start times would be impacted if SFSD declares a One-Hour Late Start. Review it now... before winter weather is here to stay!

Saturday's snow has us thinking ahead to winter weather. Is your family prepared for the possibility of Late Starts or Remote Learning Days? This week, we'll highlight everything you need to know to prepare for changes in the school day caused by weather.

The 4th and 5th grade students put on an incredible performance of "At the Bandstand" two times yesterday! Thank you to Jill Fitzsimmons for putting together and directing a wonderful production. Thank you to Emily Anderson, Music 2 teacher, for supporting/supervising on the days that you were in the building. Thank you Angie Swatlowski, Andrew Gillen, and Tracy Gillen for creating the sets and poodle skirts. Thank you to Gretchen McKee and Erin Weyers for choreographing the dances. Thank you to all other parent volunteers for helping move sets and being an extra set of hands wherever help was needed. Thank you to students for performing and families for encouraging your children. Performances like last night are great reminders of how awesome our John Harris community is!

Last Friday, Kindergartners went to the John Harris "Pumpkin Patch" and enjoyed some fun activities together. Inside the building, 3rd grade students have brought in pumpkins decorated as characters from some of their favorite books. It feels and looks like fall around here!

At the end of last school year, the HERO breakfast was added to our PBIS system as an additional way to recognize students and parent volunteers that have exemplified the John Harris CORE values (Helpfulness, Excellence, Respect, Ownership). This morning was our first HERO breakfast of the 23-24 school year!
Nominated by staff members, these students and parent volunteers became recipients of the "Honorable Harris HERO award," which was presented to each student and parent that was nominated.
Shaun Johnson, from the a capella group Tonic Sol-fa, was our guest speaker for the event. He spoke about the importance of putting forth effort, specifically emphasizing the importance of making small bursts of effort.

This event is sponsored by the WHS student council. Check the flyer for details.

At all levels, JHE students are authors!
