It was Walk to School Day today and we couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather. It was fun seeing families arrive together! Thank you to the John Harris Elementary PTO for supporting this event with prizes and volunteers at checkpoints!
Today is National Custodian Appreciation Day. The John Harris custodians are amazing! Thank you Steve, Alex, Thomas, and Phul. Our building is clean and well maintained thanks to their hard work and dedication!
Last Friday was the JHE Fun Run and PBIS game day!
Our Fun Run theme this year is "Castle Quest." Some students and staff dressed like queens, kings, princesses, and princes. During lunch today, kids were greeted by "King Steve" as they exited the lunchroom and went to recess.
Yesterday, our amazing Education Assistants wore t-shirts stating: "You can't spell TEAM without an EA." Those words could not be more true! We're missing a few team members in the picture, but we greatly value the work of all EAs at John Harris!
Thank you for your continued support of the Fun Run. We have already raised over 35% of our goal!
See the image for evening challenges through September 27th!

"Report, Don't Repost." Parents, students, and the community are asked to take 3 minutes to hear an important message from Superintendent Jane Stavem and Police Chief Jon Thum. School safety is everyone's responsibility!
This afternoon JHE students and staff gathered for our Fun/Color Run Kickoff event. After learning about the fundraiser, selected students chose a staff member to copy their dunk!

4th and 5th graders previewed genres by completing StarBOOKS in library this week.
Amy Odland came to first grade to kick off the release of a book written by Brad and Kristi Montague. It is called Fail-a-bration. Failing at something means you tried, did your best, and learned something. We were excited to be some of the first people in the country to read this book. There were lots of life lessons learned in this book.
Happy National Arts in Education Week!
In celebration, our new back-to-school, school-wide collaborative project is complete! This year students created a Mary Blair inspired castle. Mary Blair was a Disney artist. Her work can be seen in the movies: Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland, and she later went on to be the lead designer and helped bring to life the ride, It's a Small World, at Disney Land.
Inspired by her work, our JHE students worked collaboratively, and they each contributed a building block to our castle. You can find the new display on the wall next to the MPR by the windows. See if you can spot some of our JHE animal friends hanging out in the castle!
Thanks to Ms. Levisay for coordinating such a beautiful school- wide project!
The first Monday of the first full week of school is in the books! It's going to be a great week!

This past week, it was wonderful to see classrooms continue to build a sense of community and for students to become more comfortable with routines. On Tuesday, grade levels rotated to three different areas to review expectations for the bathroom/hallways, lunchroom, and playground. Taking intentional time to teach these expectations early helps students to be successful throughout the year!
There were some major construction projects at JHE over the summer. K01 and K02 were completely remodeled. The library was also remodeled and a library office area was added to the southeast corner. These changes have positively enhanced the learning spaces for students!
The John Harris Elementary staff are grateful to our PTO for providing a beverage prepared by Rainy Day Coffee Company! We are excited for another day of learning with students tomorrow!
