JHE students did an awesome job at the Fun Run Kick-Off Assembly! We saw many staff members and students dressed for the special day! Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Effling strike a pose to show their outdoorsy side, while Mrs. Fitzsimmons, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Conner, and Mrs. Dobberpuhl took a moment to enjoy the artificial outdoors!
We had our Fun Run Kick-Off Assembly today. Mr. Miedema fulfilled his dream of hosting the game show "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?" Four fifth graders and four teachers faced off, answering various trivia questions about National Parks! It ended in a tie!

We’re having a blast with our school community at the JHE family fun night! It’s so great seeing all the smiles!
It’s National Arts Education week! We have wonderful new artwork to brighten our hallway. Thank you to our art teacher, Ms. Levisay and JHE artists! Learning Adventures Preschool through 4th grade students created positive affirmation “sunbursts.” 5th grade students created a tiny work of art inspired by the group Tiny Art Show.
Parenting is hard. So is growing up! Join SFSD and Avera experts as we team up virtually on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm for topics that strengthen families.
Members of the Washington High School Homecoming court came to visit students at JHE today. They provided insight and advice about working hard in school. The WHS students visited classrooms and even joined some students on the playground!

The first All Pro Dad event was a great success. The topic was "Positivity." There was time for discussion and reflection. It was a great way to start our Friday!
The first All Pro Dad event of the school year is tomorrow, Friday, September 9th! Dads, guardians, uncles, grandpas, and mentors, join us in the school gym starting at 7:15am until 7:45am. Come with your children for breakfast, coffee, and great discussion!

The second graders in Mrs. Hayzlett's room did their best mathematical thinking with some geometry this week. 5th graders in Mrs. Robert's classroom worked through a STEM and community building activity titled "Helping Harry."
There is no school Friday, September 2nd - Monday, September 5th due to the Labor Day holiday. We will see students back at school on Tuesday, September 6th. Have a great weekend!
We are fortunate to have three generations working at John Harris Elementary... Mrs. Stolp, Mrs. Mediger, and Ms. Mediger!
School drop-offs and pick-ups can be messy! Take your time, stay alert, and obey the rules of the road. A safe and orderly process makes the day start and end on a positive note for both students and parents!
It was a great first day at John Harris. We enjoyed seeing the families on the playground to start the day. Our teams of teachers have worked hard to kick off the school year. Classrooms were buzzing with energy as positive classroom communities were being built. We're ready for another day tomorrow!
The John Harris PTO provided a nice opportunity for parents to connect at the "Boo Hoo Yahoo Breakfast!"
